Try this if you feel overwhelmed with the mountain of tasks ahead of you

by Adina Levy

Hands up if you experience difficulty with prioritisation… and you often feel overwhelmed with the mountain of tasks ahead of you?

You might find it challenging to identify and/or stick to your priorities.

This can leave you feeling overwhelmed and frozen, or working on random tasks…

(can you see me waving my hand in the air wildly? Hi, it’s me.)

Here are 4 ideas you can try, to support yourself through the task-overwhelm:

  • Allocate time for project and task planning – this is not an optional extra, but a worthwhile activity
  • Schedule regular โ€˜brain dumpโ€™ sessions to clear your mind and organise thoughts
  • Give yourself a clear โ€˜one dayโ€™ or โ€˜maybeโ€™ list so you can place non-urgent/low-priority ideas there and not feel that theyโ€™re lost forever
  • Keep your current main priorities always visible to you, e.g. on a Post-It note at your computer

It’s not a one-size-fits-all… nothing is. Trial and error and understanding the deepest aspects of your specific version of this challenge can help you figure out which supportive strategy may suit you best.

Which strategy is most helpful (or might be most helpful)?
